WORK 01

Explorations of a Pocket Watch

was one of the very first projects I ever did in grad school. This is the activity where I truly started to learn how to use Rhino, Photoshop, and Illustrator. While taking apart an object of our choosing, we then had to rebuild it digitally in Rhino, document it and all its pieces via photography, and create drawings using Illustrator and Photoshop.

I was inspired in no small part by the idea that time seems to move both too fast and too slow.

“One must work with time and not against it.”

-Ursula K. Le Guin

Another part of this activity was learning more about Knolling Photography and learning how to properly utilize it. This is sometimes called “flat lay photography” and has been around since the late 1980s. The rigid nature of the knoll photos compared with the fluidity of the drawings created was intended to capture the paradox duality of time.
